OK, so I ended up going for a run yesterday, despite my piles of work. It was a fabulously gorgeous day and who can resist that? Plus I'm sitting at my computer all day, which feels yucky!
Running has become a passion of mine over the past year. When I started running a little over a year ago I took to it for several reasons, fitness, I felt good, and all that usual stuff for sure. However, the main reason was that it was mine, all mine. It was something that set me apart. I could step out my role as a single homeschooling mom trying to make ends meet, step away from the work and the stress, and have something that was just for me. I still love running for that reason, but now I also love it because I can progress and grow and flourish. I grow stronger all the time and I am learning how to set training goals.
Now, my running is far from consistent. I am still a single mother, but my kids now go to school, which thankfully has worked out well for everyone. But there are days when the kids are sick or I have serious work deadlines and I just can't get out and run when I want to. Then there will be summer vacation when I will be doing plenty of around-the-park runs. But I know that as long as my legs work and I have a good pair of running shoes, running will always be there for me.
I plan to run my first race, the Forest City Road Races 5K, in about 6 weeks. I can't wait! I used to think that all those people running in the middle of winter, in the snow and the ice and the cold, were complete lunatics. Now I am a lunatic too and I couldn't be happier. Although you might not always hear me say that on a cold January day when the wind is whipping around. But now it is spring and those cold days are behind us and running is better than ever!
Find your passion. Love your passion. Live your passion.
